Lore
Biology
Gothita is a small humanoid with a tuft of hair on its purple head, large blue eyes with three lashes each and small red lips. Two white bow-shaped feelers sit on each side of its head and a third on its neck, and its black torso has a white zigzag across it. It is 0.4 m tall and weighs 5.8 kg. The feelers amplify its psychic power.
Behaviour
Gothita is normally very innocent and quiet. It watches Trainers and Pokémon, and the Pokédex says it can become so absorbed that it fails to notice attacks. It sometimes makes muted cries even when nobody is near, which many people take as a sign that it is talking to something only it can see.
Habitat
No Pokédex entry names a habitat. In Scarlet and Violet it appears in East Province Area Three, and the Indigo Disk adds the Coastal Biome and the Torchlit Labyrinth.
Powers
Its Abilities are Frisk, which reveals an opponent's held item, and Competitive, which raises its Special Attack sharply whenever one of its stats is lowered. The hidden Ability Shadow Tag stops opponents fleeing or switching. It uses Confusion, Psybeam, Psyshock and Hypnosis. Its best base stat is Special Defense at 65.
Name origin
Gothita may come from 'gothic' with the Spanish diminutive -ita, or from 'Gothic Lolita'. The Japanese name is Gothimu (ゴチム), which may combine 'gothic' with a word for chubby.
Design inspiration
Bulbapedia says Gothita appears to be a child in Gothic Lolita fashion, a style shaped by Victorian and Rococo dress. It may also play on the common idea that girls dressed in goth styles have magical powers.
Evolution notes
Evolves into Gothorita at level 32, and Gothorita becomes Gothitelle at level 41.
In the games
Gothita is a Black exclusive in Black and White, where it debuted, as it is in Black 2 and Sword. In Scarlet and Violet it also appears in 2-star Tera Raids. It is not available in Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
Gothita debuted in 'Where Did You Go, Audino?', where Christie's Gothita used Telekinesis to carry the group across a river and Psyshock against Jessie's Woobat. In 'Scraggy and the Demanding Gothita!', Katharine's Gothita developed a crush on Ash's Scraggy.
