Lore

Biology

Gothorita is a slim, black-bodied humanoid with a pale purple face, red lips and cyan eyes. Two round black buns, each decorated with white bows, sit on either side of its head, and its lower body flares out like a skirt. It is 0.7 m tall and weighs 18 kg.

Behaviour

Gothorita draws its power from starlight, and on starry nights it floats pebbles into the shapes of constellations. The Black Pokédex says it hypnotises people and Pokémon so it can take control of them, and stories of it leading travellers astray are told everywhere. Some people believe it came from outer space, though the Shield Pokédex says its link to the universe is unknown.

Habitat

No Pokédex entry names a habitat. In Scarlet and Violet it appears in South Province Area Six, and the Indigo Disk adds the Coastal Biome and the Torchlit Labyrinth.

Powers

Its Abilities are Frisk and Competitive, with Shadow Tag hidden. It hits with Psybeam and Psyshock, hypnotises with Hypnosis, and learns Future Sight and Magic Room later. Its best base stat is Special Defense at 85, so it is a sturdy middle stage.

Name origin

Gothorita may blend 'goth' and 'señorita', or Gothic Lolita. The Japanese name is Gothimiru (ゴチミル), which may combine 'gothic' with a word for 'to see'.

Design inspiration

Bulbapedia says the whole line may be based on diviners, especially astrologers, given Gothitelle's star-reading. Gothorita itself seems to be a young girl dressed in a Gothic style.

Evolution notes

Evolves from Gothita at level 32 and into Gothitelle at level 41.

In the games

Gothorita appears on Route 9 in Black and White, where it debuted, and Black 2 also puts one in the Strange House. In Scarlet and Violet it also turns up in 3-star Tera Raids, and in Sword it is found in Giant's Cap and the Dusty Bowl. It is not available in Legends: Z-A.

In the anime

Gothorita made its anime debut in 'Stopping the Rage of Legends! Part 1', where Lewis's Gothorita helped summon Landorus. In 'The Clubsplosion Begins!', Flora's Gothorita lost to Cilan's Pansage, and it was later revealed to have evolved into Gothitelle.
