Lore
Biology
Gothitelle is a black humanoid with a teardrop-shaped head, a white bow at its tip and a purple face with zigzag bangs. It has heavy-lidded blue eyes and small red lips. Its body is split into four tiers, each with a white bow, over stubby pink feet. It is 1.5 m tall and weighs 44 kg.
Behaviour
Gothitelle dislikes conflict, and the Violet Pokédex says it seems a little detached because it has seen how everything ends. The Shield entry claims that a criminal whose fate a Gothitelle revealed disappeared the same day without a trace.
Habitat
No Pokédex entry names a habitat. In Scarlet and Violet it appears in South Province Area Six, and the Indigo Disk adds the Coastal Biome and the Torchlit Labyrinth.
Powers
Its immense psychic power bends the space around it so that distant stars, thousands of light-years away, come into view. Its Abilities are Frisk and Competitive, with Shadow Tag hidden. It uses Psychic, Hypnosis, Future Sight and Magic Room. With 110 base Special Defense and 95 Defense and Special Attack, it is a tough, patient attacker.
Name origin
Gothitelle may combine 'Gothic' with 'mademoiselle', the French title for a young woman, and could also play on 'stellar' and 'foretell'. The Japanese name is Gothiruselle (ゴチルゼル), which may share the Gothic and mademoiselle blend.
Design inspiration
Bulbapedia says Gothitelle appears to be a stylised woman in Gothic clothing, and that it is also a little like the Flatwoods monster, a cryptid made famous in Japan. Its habit of learning life spans likely references predictions by fortune tellers.
Evolution notes
Evolves from Gothorita at level 41 and is the final form of the line.
In the games
Gothitelle is on Caitlin's Elite Four team in Black and White and in Black 2 and White 2. In PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond, a Gothitelle is one of Darkrai's minions. In Scarlet and Violet it also appears in 5-star Tera Raids, and it is not available in Legends: Z-A.
