Solosis official artwork

Solosis is a Psychic-type Pokémon, the Cell Pokémon, number 577 (#0577) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 5 and comes from the Unova region. It is 0.3 m tall and weighs 1 kg.

Solosis is the Cell Pokémon, a tiny Psychic type wrapped in a jelly-like liquid. The Pokédex says the liquid lets it live in any environment, but a hard blow can make it leak away.

How to pronounce Solosis

Solosis is pronounced soh-LOH-sis. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

Lore

Biology

Solosis is a round green blob, 0.3 m tall and 1 kg, covered in a darker green gel. It has dark oval eyes, a red diamond-shaped mouth and, on the upper left of its head, a curly yellow growth that Bulbapedia compares to a part of a cell.

Behaviour

Solosis communicates with other Pokémon by telepathy. When something threatens it, the Pokédex says it unleashes psychic power to drive the attacker away.

Habitat

No Pokédex entry names a habitat. In Scarlet and Violet it appears in the Polar Biome of the Indigo Disk expansion's Terarium and in 2 star Tera Raid Battles.

Powers

Solosis has the Abilities Overcoat and Magic Guard, with Regenerator hidden. It starts with Confusion and Protect, learns Recover at level 4 and Psyshock at level 20, and reaches Psychic at level 36. With 105 base Special Attack but only 20 Speed and 40 Defense, it hits hard for its size yet is slow and frail.

Name origin

Solosis may combine 'solo' with 'meiosis' or 'mitosis', two ways a cell divides. The Japanese name is Uniran (ユニラン), which may join 'uni-' (one) with 卵 ran (egg cell).

Design inspiration

The whole line seems built around a cell: the head as the nucleus, the green gel as cytoplasm and the floating objects as organelles. Bulbapedia adds that surviving extreme conditions may echo extremophiles such as the tardigrade. These are fan readings.

Evolution notes

Solosis evolves into Duosion at level 32, which evolves into Reuniclus at level 41.

In the games

In Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, a Solosis and some Litwick play spooky tricks on the people of Serene Village. The species itself debuted in White as a version exclusive. It is not available in Legends: Z-A.

In the anime

Doyle's Solosis debuted in 'Where Did You Go, Audino?', where it helped search for missing Audino and helped the group over a cliff. Several more appear in the twin Victini films, under a Trainer named Damon.
