Lore

Biology

Gurdurr is 1.2 m tall and 40 kg, grey with a big, round, dark-red nose and curl-like lumps on its head. Violet bulges swell across its arms, thighs and chest, and thick violet bands cross its shoulders. The Pokédex says it is so strongly built that a group of wrestlers could not shift it by even an inch.

Behaviour

If a Gurdurr does not measure up to the others it lies low for a while, according to the Pokédex. It wields its beam with skill, and uses its muscles mostly to take buildings down.

Habitat

Gurdurr is typically found around construction sites. In Unova it lives in Twist Mountain in Black and White.

Powers

Its Abilities are Guts and Sheer Force, with Iron Fist hidden. Its level-up moves include Dynamic Punch, Hammer Arm, Superpower and Focus Punch. Base Attack of 105 and HP of 85 make it a tough brawler midway through its line.

Name origin

Gurdurr may come from 'girder', a support beam. The Japanese name is Dotekkotsu (ドテッコツ), possibly from doboku (civil engineering) and tekkotsu (steel framework).

Design inspiration

Gurdurr is likely based on a construction worker with a steel beam. The swollen bands on its shoulders look like tasuki, the sash Japanese labourers use to keep their sleeves out of the way, and its clown-like nose and big muscles may also recall a sideshow strongman.

Evolution notes

Evolves from Timburr at level 25, and into Conkeldurr when traded.

In the games

Gurdurr is a major character in Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, a builder who refuses to help build the Pokémon Paradise until the player beats him in battle. In Scarlet and Violet it is wild in Kitakami's Fellhorn Gorge and Mossfell Confluence in The Teal Mask, and it is unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.

In the anime

Trip's Gurdurr was revealed to have evolved from Timburr in 'Cilan Versus Trip, Ash Versus Georgia!', where it lost to Cilan's Dwebble. In 'Trials of a Budding Master!' Dozer's Gurdurr lost to Ash's Farfetch'd in a World Coronation Series battle.
