Hatenna is a Psychic-type Pokémon, the Calm Pokémon, number 856 (#0856) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 8 and comes from the Galar region. It is 0.4 m tall and weighs 3.4 kg.

Hatenna is the Calm Pokémon, a small pink Psychic type whose head antenna soaks up the emotions of everything nearby. Strong feelings wear it out, so it runs from crowds and only warms to calm people.

Lore

Biology

Hatenna is a small, round, pink Pokémon, 0.4 m tall and 3.4 kg, mostly hidden under a blue wig-like covering with a pink, hat-shaped tail that ends in a blue bulb. Flaps on the sides of its head can work like limbs. Hatenna and its whole evolutionary line are female only. The Pokédex says the protrusion on its head senses the emotions of other creatures.

Behaviour

Because other creatures' feelings keep pouring into its head, Hatenna prefers places where no other creatures live, and it runs away as fast as it can from strong emotions. Too much exposure leaves it exhausted. The Pokédex says it will never warm up to anyone who does not have a calm disposition.

Habitat

The Pokédex says it prefers areas without people. In Scarlet and Violet it lives in Paldea's South and West Provinces, and The Teal Mask adds much of Kitakami.

Powers

Its Abilities are Healer and Anticipation, with Magic Bounce hidden, which reflects most non-damaging moves back at their user. It starts with Confusion and Play Nice and later learns Life Dew, Disarming Voice, Psybeam, Calm Mind, Psychic and Healing Wish. With only 265 base stats in total it is a fragile first stage, and Magic Bounce is its most useful trick.

Name origin

Hatenna may combine 'hat' and 'antenna'. The Japanese name is Mibrim (ミブリム), possibly from miburi ('gesture') and 'brim'.

Design inspiration

Hatenna looks like a baby witch in a wig that doubles as a witch's hat or a birthday hat. This is a fan reading, and Bulbapedia names no designer.

Evolution notes

Hatenna evolves into Hattrem at level 32.

In the games

Hatenna appears in the Wild Area at places such as Hammerlocke Hills and Stony Wilderness in Sword and Shield, where it debuted. Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.

In the anime

Liko befriends and catches a lonely Hatenna in 'The Lonely Hatenna' in Horizons. In the Twilight Wings web series, Bede owns one in 'Sky'.
