Lechonk is a Normal-type Pokémon, the Hog Pokémon, number 915 (#0915) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 9 and comes from the Paldea region. It is 0.5 m tall and weighs 10.2 kg.

Lechonk is the Hog Pokémon, a gourmet that turns its nose up at all but the finest food. The Pokédex says its keen sense of smell is used for little besides foraging, and its herbal scent is one that bug Pokémon detest.

Lore

Biology

Lechonk is a stout, hog-like Pokémon, 0.5 m tall and 10.2 kg. Its body is almost entirely grey-black, with brown on its face and ears and yellow growths under its eyes that look like teardrops. Droopy ears with yellow insides partly cover its eyes, and it has a triangular pink snout with big oval nostrils, pink hooves and a short curled tail.

Behaviour

Lechonk searches for food all day long. In the anime it is timid, but it turns hostile towards any Trainer carrying groceries or a meal and attacks to steal the food.

Habitat

The Pokédex names no habitat. Serebii lists it in Paldea's grass and forest biomes, across South Province, East Province areas One and Two, and the Pokémon League.

Diet

Bulbapedia says its nose leads it to fragrant wild grasses and rich Berries.

Powers

Lechonk has Aroma Veil, which protects allies from moves that affect their minds, or Gluttony, with Thick Fat hidden, which halves damage from Fire and Ice moves. It tackles, digs and headbutts, and uses Disarming Voice and Echoed Voice, later learning Uproar and Double-Edge. Base HP 54 is its best stat, so it is fragile.

Name origin

Lechonk may combine lechón, Spanish for a suckling piglet, with 'chonk', slang for a big, round animal. The Japanese name is Gourton (グルトン), possibly 'gourmet', 'glutton' and ton ('pig').

Design inspiration

Lechonk appears to be a young black Iberian pig, which fits Paldea's Iberian setting and the breed's large appetite. Its fussy gourmet streak may also draw on truffle hogs, pigs trained to find truffles. These are fan readings, not official statements.

Evolution notes

Lechonk evolves into Oinkologne at level 18, and a male or female Lechonk becomes the matching form.

In the games

Lechonk can be caught in the wild in Scarlet and Violet, where it first appeared, and it also appears in 1-star Tera Raid Battles. It is not available in Legends: Z-A.

In the anime

Lechonk debuted in the Horizons episode 'Welcome to Paldea!', trying to steal the food Liko had got and being stopped by her Sprigatito.

Fun facts

  • Lechonk and the female Oinkologne alone have Aroma Veil as an ordinary Ability rather than a hidden one, Bulbapedia notes.
  • The Pokémon Company made Lechonk the star of its April Fools' Day 2023 campaign, 'Discover Pokémon Together: Lechonk', with themed distributions, promotions and merchandise.
  • Bulbapedia says some Trainers put Lechonk to work finding cooking ingredients, for example Crabominable pincers that have come off and lie scattered on mountainsides.
