Lore

Biology

Lickilicky is round and dark pink, 1.7 m tall and 140 kg, with a small tail, a yellow line across its belly and a white bib-shaped marking. Something curled seems to sit on top of its head. The Pokédex says it keeps spare saliva in its throat, along with its tongue when rolled up.

Behaviour

Lickilicky has a big appetite and licks anything nearby for leftover crumbs. It uses its tongue far more skilfully than its clumsy hands, and the Pokédex says it can deftly lift a single small bean with it. Stand too close and you end up drenched in drool.

Habitat

Bulbapedia places it in forests near a large body of water.

Powers

Own Tempo prevents confusion, Oblivious prevents infatuation and the hidden Cloud Nine negates weather. It fights with Lick, Wrap, Stomp, Knock Off, Slam and Power Whip, and Belly Drum boosts its Attack at a cost. With 110 base HP and 95 in both defences it is a bulky bruiser, though its Speed is only 50.

Name origin

Lickilicky may come from repeating 'lick' or 'licky'. The Japanese name is Berobelt (ベロベルト), which may blend bero (a slang word for tongue), berobero (licking) and berotto (sticking out your tongue).

Design inspiration

Bulbapedia reads its white bib and huge appetite as an exaggerated, bloated gourmand, perhaps in dandy-style dress, on top of the tongue-animal ideas it shares with Lickitung. These are fan readings.

Evolution notes

Lickitung evolves into Lickilicky by levelling up while it knows Rollout.

In the games

Lickilicky first appeared in Diamond and Pearl, where you evolve Lickitung into one. It can be found in Legends: Arceus and, in Sword and Shield, in the Isle of Armor's Soothing Wetlands, but it is unobtainable in Scarlet and Violet and Legends: Z-A.

In the anime

Lickilicky first appeared in the film 'The Rise of Darkrai' as Baron Alberto's main battler, and Alberto briefly turned into one, earning the nickname 'Baron Lickilicky'. Its series debut came when a Lickitung left at Angie's parents' Day Care evolved in 'If the Scarf Fits, Wear It!'.

Fun facts

  • At Gold and Silver's Spaceworld '97 showing, Lickitung had an Evolution called Namēru, learned at level 32, that may have inspired Lickilicky.
  • Bulbapedia notes it would have been obtainable in Generation II and III had it existed, because a Lickitung with Rollout was possible in both, a trait it shares with Mamoswine.
  • In the film 'The Rise of Darkrai', its Japanese name is romanised as Beroberuto.
