Luxray

Luxray is a Electric-type Pokémon, the Gleam Eyes Pokémon, number 405 (#0405) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 4 and comes from the Sinnoh region. It is 1.4 m tall and weighs 42 kg.
Luxray is the Gleam Eyes Pokémon, a black-maned lion whose eyes flash gold as it sees straight through walls to spot hiding prey or find its lost young. The effort drains its electricity, so it sleeps for long stretches to recharge.

Lore
Biology
Luxray is 1.4 m tall and weighs 42 kg. Blue fur covers its face, legs and torso, topped by shaggy black fur that forms a mane, larger on the male, and a long thin tail with a four-pointed star at the tip. Its eyes are yellow with red sclerae and turn gold when it uses its see-through sight. Three yellow half-rings mark the back of each foreleg.
Behaviour
Luxray lives in packs, each led by a single male, according to a Legends: Arceus entry. It uses its sight to scout for danger and to track prey, even if the prey hides behind a thick wall.
Habitat
The Pokédex gives no habitat. In Scarlet and Violet it lives in South Province Area Five and North Province Area Two, and in The Teal Mask in Kitakami around Fellhorn Gorge, the Kitakami Wilds and Timeless Woods.
Powers
Luxray has Rivalry or Intimidate, with Guts hidden. Spark and Discharge deliver its electricity, Wild Charge is its heaviest hit, and Crunch and Scary Face handle the intimidating. With base Attack 120 and Special Attack 95 it hits hard from either side.
Name origin
Luxray may blend lux, the Latin word for 'light', with 'X-ray', and may reference the mythical lynx said to see through solid objects. The Japanese name is Rentorar (レントラー), perhaps from Röntgen, another name for the X-ray, and tora (tiger).
Design inspiration
Luxray resembles the sphinx and an adult male lion. Bulbapedia also sees a possible link to the Orion correlation theory, the idea that the Great Sphinx was built during an 'Age of Leo'. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Luxray evolves from Luxio at level 30 and is the last stage of the line.
In the games
Luxray is the last Pokémon, at level 49, of Sunyshore Gym Leader Volkner in Diamond and Pearl, where it debuted, and it stays on his team in Platinum and Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. In Scarlet and Violet it appears in 5-star Tera Raid Battles, and it is not available in Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
Clemont's Luxio evolved into Luxray in 'The Future Is Now, Thanks to Determination!' while saving him. Volkner's Luxray faced Ash's Grotle in 'The Fleeing Tower of Sunyshore!', but the match was abandoned when the lights failed.

- In the magazine run of Pokémon Adventures, Mars of Team Galactic owned a Luxray, but the graphic novels swapped it for an Electivire.
- In Detective Pikachu Returns, Detective Pikachu can ride Luxray and use its see-through sight in stealth sections.
