Rhyhorn

Rhyhorn is a Ground/Rock-type Pokémon, the Spikes Pokémon, number 111 (#0111) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 1 and comes from the Kanto region. It is 1 m tall and weighs 115 kg.
Rhyhorn is a Ground and Rock type with a brain so small that once it starts charging, it forgets why it started. That has not stopped it flattening boulders, buildings and the odd block of steel.

Lore
Biology
Rhyhorn is a grey, rhinoceros-like Pokémon with rocky plates over its body, four short legs ending in two-clawed feet, narrow red eyes, two fangs and a horn on its snout that is shorter on females. A spiked ridge runs down its back. It stands 1.0 m tall and weighs 115 kg. The Pokédex says its skeleton is a thousand times tougher than human bone.
Behaviour
Rhyhorn is single-minded rather than clever. The Pokédex says it runs until it falls asleep, is hopeless at turning on its short legs, and may ache the day after a head-on crash. Its Scarlet entry says it claims a territory with a radius of about 10 km (over 6 miles) but forgets where it is while running.
Habitat
The Pokédex habitat list puts it in rough terrain. In Scarlet and Violet it arrives by transfer or trade, and The Indigo Disk adds it to the Terarium's Savanna Biome and to 3-star Tera Raid Battles; Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.
Powers
Its Abilities are Lightning Rod, which draws Electric moves towards it, and Rock Head, which stops recoil damage; Reckless is hidden. It learns Horn Attack, Stomp, Rock Blast, Drill Run, Earthquake and Stone Edge. With base Defense 95 but base Speed 25, it is built to take hits rather than dodge them.
Name origin
Rhyhorn may combine 'rhinoceros', 'rhyolite' (a rock, hinting at its Rock type) and 'horn'. The Japanese name is Sihorn (サイホーン), perhaps from sai (犀, 'rhinoceros') plus 'horn'.
Design inspiration
Ken Sugimori designed Rhyhorn. It appears to be based on an Indian rhinoceros, whose skin is also plated like armour, and may have borrowed its flat head and horn from Uintatherium, an extinct mammal; ceratopsid dinosaurs may also have played a part. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Rhyhorn evolves into Rhydon at level 42, and Rhydon evolves into Rhyperior by trade while holding a Protector.
In the games
In X and Y your mother is a retired Rhyhorn racer, and you can ride a Rhyhorn across Route 9, the only way over the jagged rocks to Glittering Cave. Rhyhorn is one of the original Generation I Pokémon.
In the anime
Rhyhorn debuted in 'The Flame Pokémon-athon!'. In the Kalos series Grace, Serena's mother, owns one from her Rhyhorn racing days, introduced in 'Kalos, Where Dreams and Adventures Begin!', and the sport gets its own episode, 'Giving Chase at the Rhyhorn Race!'.

Pokédex entries
Ludicrously strong—when it butts heads with a mountain, it is the mountain that shatters. But its short legs struggle with turns, and it is incapable of stopping unless it collides with something. (Legends: Arceus)
It can remember only one thing at a time. Once it starts rushing, it forgets why it started. (Crystal, Shield)
Strong, but not too bright, this Pokémon can shatter even a skyscraper with its charging Tackles. (FireRed, X, Sword)
A Pokémon with a one-track mind. Once it charges, it won't stop running until it falls asleep. (Yellow, Let’s Go, Pikachu!, Let’s Go, Eevee!)
Rhyhorn's brain is very small. It is so dense, while on a run it forgets why it started running in the first place. It apparently remembers sometimes if it demolishes something. (Sapphire, Alpha Sapphire)
Rhyhorn runs in a straight line, smashing everything in its path. It is not bothered even if it rushes headlong into a block of steel. This Pokémon may feel some pain from the collision the next day, however. (Ruby, Omega Ruby)
