Lore
Biology
Ribombee is 0.2 m tall and weighs 0.5 kg. It has a large head on a slightly smaller body, fluffy yellow fur that holds pollen, a white face, a brown scarf-like tuft at its neck and wings nearly as big as its body. Its puffs vary with the ingredients, from food to battle items.
Behaviour
Ribombee hates rain because it dampens its pollen. The Pokédex says it predicts the weather from moisture and wind, only comes out after a few clear days, and hides stock-still in a tree hollow when clouds gather, so it is rarely seen in rainy Galar. Some of its puffs are highly nutritious and are sometimes sold as supplements.
Habitat
It lives where flowers grow in clear weather. In Alola it is found on Ula'ula and Poni Meadows, and in Scarlet and Violet in Kitakami through The Teal Mask. It is not available in Legends: Z-A.
Diet
It collects pollen and nectar from flowers and rolls them into puffs.
Powers
Its Abilities are Honey Gather and Shield Dust, with hidden Sweet Veil. It learns Pollen Puff on evolving, then Draining Kiss, Dazzling Gleam, Bug Buzz and Quiver Dance. With 124 base Speed and 95 Special Attack it is a very fast special attacker.
Name origin
Ribombee may combine 'ribbon', Bombyliidae (the bee fly family) and 'bee', and may nod to the Spanish rimbombante ('flamboyant'). The Japanese name is Aburibbon (アブリボン), which may combine tsuriabu ('bee fly') and 'ribbon'.
Design inspiration
Ribombee seems modelled on a bee fly, and its pollen puffs may draw on fairy dust. Its brown neck tuft looks like a scarf. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Ribombee evolves from Cutiefly at level 25.
In the games
Ribombee is the Totem Pokémon of Mina's trial in Seafolk Village in Sun and Moon, its debut games, and the reward is the Fairium Z. In Scarlet and Violet it lives in Kitakami through The Teal Mask, including 4-star Tera Raid Battles.
In the anime
Mina's partner Ribombee appears in 'The Shape of Love to Come!', and Mina can understand the emotions it senses. Nemona uses one alongside her Pawmot in a Double Battle against Roy in 'Terastallization vs. Mega Evolution!'.
