Lore
Biology
Roserade is a bipedal Pokémon, 0.9 m tall and 14.5 kg, that looks like a rose bouquet crossed with a masquerade guest. It has white rose-petal hair, a green cape, a dark green mask over red eyes and a bouquet in each hand, red in the right and blue in the left. The Pokédex says each bouquet hides a thorned whip loaded with virulent poison, quick-acting in the right hand and slow-acting in the left.
Behaviour
Roserade draws prey close with a sweet fragrance, then moves with a dancer's grace as it corners them. The Pokédex says it finishes prey with its whips, either constricting them or skewering them. Either hand can land a jab with near-fatal power.
Habitat
The Pokédex gives no habitat. It cannot be obtained in Scarlet and Violet; in Legends: Z-A it is found in the base game's Wild Zone 20 and in the Mega Dimension DLC's Hyperspace Lumiose.
Powers
Roserade has Natural Cure and Poison Point, with Technician hidden, which boosts moves of up to 60 base power. It hits hard with Leaf Storm, Sludge Bomb and Petal Dance, jabs with Poison Jab and can lay Toxic Spikes. With 125 base Special Attack and 90 Speed it is a quick special attacker.
Name origin
Roserade may combine 'rose' and 'masquerade', for the mask it wears. The Japanese name is Roserade (ロズレイド).
Design inspiration
Roserade appears to combine a rose bouquet with a mysterious guest at a masquerade ball, and its mask, cape and the dancer comparison in its Pokédex entry support that. Fan readings also suggest hellebores, poisonous flowers that look like roses.
Evolution notes
Roserade evolves from Roselia when a Shiny Stone is used on it, and is the final form of the Budew line.
In the games
Roserade is the last Pokémon, at level 22, of Eterna Gym Leader Gardenia in Diamond and Pearl, where it debuted, and in Black 2 and White 2's Pokémon World Tournament she always leads with it as her signature Pokémon.
In the anime
Gardenia's Roserade was her last Pokémon against Ash in 'The Grass Menagerie!', beating Turtwig with a Weather Ball powered by the bright sun before Aipom won the battle. Drew's Roselia was revealed to have become a Roserade when May mentioned it in 'A Full Course Tag Battle!'.
