Lore

Biology

Tinkatink is a small pink humanoid, 0.4 m tall and 8.9 kg, with a big head, stumpy toeless feet and a steel plate on its chest. It carries a crude grey hammer with a short handle, like a baby's rattle, made from iron scraps and from tools and metal fragments found in mines or steel factories. Tinkatink and both of its evolutions are female only.

Behaviour

The Pokédex says Tinkatink waves its home-made hammer about to defend itself. Bulbapedia adds that Tinkatink can tell good scrap metal from bad.

Habitat

Bulbapedia says it lives in ruins across Paldea, and Serebii lists a Ruins biome. In Scarlet and Violet it is found in the South, East and West Provinces and the Asado Desert, and it appears in 2-star Tera Raids.

Powers

Mold Breaker lets its moves ignore defensive Abilities, Own Tempo prevents confusion and Pickpocket is hidden. It swings its hammer with Metal Claw, Slam and Brutal Swing, and learns Play Rough, Fake Out, Flash Cannon and Knock Off as it grows. Its best stat is a base Special Defense of 64.

Name origin

Tinkatink may blend 'tinker' (a travelling tinsmith) with 'pink' or 'tink', the sound of metal being struck. The Japanese name is Kanuchan (カヌチャン), perhaps kanuchi (blacksmith) plus the friendly suffix -chan.

Design inspiration

Bulbapedia credits Megumi Mizutani with the whole line, citing her post on social media. Given its type pair and size, Tinkatink may be inspired by dwarfs and other folk-tale smiths, and with its rattle-like hammer it also resembles a baby. These are fan readings.

Evolution notes

Tinkatink becomes Tinkatuff at level 24, and that stage becomes Tinkaton at level 38.

In the games

Tinkatink is the first stage of the Tinkaton line, introduced in Scarlet and Violet. In Legends: Z-A it appears in the Mega Dimension DLC's Hyperspace Lumiose, with Hyperspace dex number 16, and Bulbapedia says the base game can obtain it only by trade.

In the anime

Dot caught a Tinkatink in the Horizons episode 'Tinkatink's Ideal Hammer'. It evolved into Tinkatuff in 'Tinkatink's Hammer Wasn't Made in a Day' and later into Tinkaton.
