Lore
Biology
Walking Wake is a large, two-legged theropod, 3.5 m tall and 280 kg, with a long white snout, a single horn under its chin and a hexagonal blue crest on its forehead. A thick purple mane covers its arms and back like an aurora, ending in red and orange spikes. It has two small pale-blue forelimbs, powerful hind legs and two long white tails with small spikes.
Behaviour
The Pokédex calls it a ferocious creature shrouded in mystery. Bulbapedia says it walks on the surface of water on its hind legs and has powerful control over water.
Habitat
The Pokédex names no habitat, and in Scarlet and Violet it does not appear in the wild.
Powers
Its Ability Protosynthesis raises its highest stat in harsh sunlight or when it holds Booster Energy. Hydro Steam, a move only Walking Wake learns, is a Water move that gets a 50% boost in harsh sunlight instead of the usual cut. It also fires Flamethrower, Dragon Pulse and Hydro Pump and sharpens with Dragon Dance. Base Special Attack 125 and Speed 109 make it a fast special attacker.
Name origin
Its name is meant literally: a wake is the trail of disturbed water behind something moving. The Japanese name is Uneruminamo (ウネルミナモ), from uneru minamo (うねる水面), 'undulating water surface'.
Design inspiration
Walking Wake is based on Suicune, a design credited to Muneo Saitō, and takes its body from theropod dinosaurs and perhaps the basilisk lizard, which also runs on water. Bulbapedia suggests small theropods such as Coelophysis, or large ones such as Carcharodontosaurus, whose name means shark-toothed lizard and would suit a Water and Dragon type. These are fan readings.
In the games
Walking Wake arrived in Scarlet and Violet through limited-time Tera Raid events announced in Poké Portal News, and only one can be caught per save file. It is number 241 in the Blueberry Pokédex but, like Iron Leaves and Pecharunt, is not required to complete it. It is not available in Legends: Z-A.
