Lore
Biology
Zebstrika is a black zebra with jagged white stripes all over: a pointed one from the nose, elaborate ones on the neck and chest, zigzags on the jaw, back and hindquarters, and two bands on each leg. Its eyes are blue with white lashes, and a spiked white mane runs from two horn-like points on the forehead to a tail with a starburst tip. It is 1.6 m tall and weighs 79.5 kg.
Behaviour
The Pokédex calls Zebstrika aggressive, volatile and ill-tempered. When it is angry its mane glows yellow and it shoots lightning in all directions, which makes it dangerous to be near. It leads herds of Blitzle, and the Violet entry says the herd follows storm clouds after thunder so that the young can charge up on the lightning.
Habitat
The Pokédex gives no habitat, but its herds follow thunderstorms. In Scarlet and Violet it arrives with The Indigo Disk as a fixed encounter in the Terarium's Savanna Biome and in 4-star Tera Raid Battles. Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Sword and Shield and Legends: Z-A.
Powers
The Black Pokédex says its movements are like lightning, with thunder reverberating when it runs at full speed. It shares Blitzle's Abilities and learns Spark, Discharge and Wild Charge. With 116 base Speed it is the fastest Electric type introduced in Generation V, backed by 100 base Attack.
Name origin
Zebstrika may combine 'zebra' with 'lightning strike'. The Japanese name is Zebraika (ゼブライカ), possibly from 'zebra' and raika, a flash of lightning.
Design inspiration
Zebstrika appears to be based on an adult zebra, the grown-up version of Blitzle's foal. No designer is credited.
Evolution notes
Zebstrika evolves from Blitzle at level 27 and is the final form.
In the games
Zebstrika is the signature Pokémon of Elesa, the supermodel Gym Leader of Nimbasa City, who sends it out after her two Emolga in Black and White, its debut games. In the Pokémon World Tournament she always leads with it, and wild ones roam Route 7.
In the anime
Elesa's Zebstrika beat all three of Bianca's Pokémon in 'Enter Elesa, Electrifying Gym Leader!', then fell to Ash's Palpitoad in 'Dazzling the Nimbasa Gym!'. Stephan's Blitzle was revealed to have evolved into one before 'Reunion Battles In Nimbasa!'.
