Roggenrola

Roggenrola is a Rock-type Pokémon, the Mantle Pokémon, number 524 (#0524) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 5 and comes from the Unova region. It is 0.4 m tall and weighs 18 kg.
Roggenrola is the Mantle Pokémon, a small blue boulder with one hexagonal ear and a warm energy core inside. It walks towards any sound it hears, and the Pokédex says it panics and topples over if the noise stops.

Lore
Biology
Roggenrola is a roughly round, navy-blue rock covered in smooth facets. It has no face, only a yellow hexagonal opening that is its ear. The Pokédex says its body is earth compressed underground for centuries, as hard as steel, though a long soak in water softens it a little. It is 0.4 m tall and weighs 18 kg.
Behaviour
The energy core sits just inside the ear, so the Pokédex says Roggenrola is slightly warm to the touch and gets very angry if anyone sticks a hand in. Bulbapedia says Dwebble treat it as a free rock to turn into a home, and Rhyperior sometimes mistake it for an ordinary rock to fire from their hands.
Habitat
The Pokédex says it is born deep underground and was found about 100 years ago in a fissure after an earthquake. In Galar it appears in the Galar Mine, Motostoke Outskirts, Stony Wilderness and Rolling Fields, with more in the expansion passes. Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Scarlet and Violet and Legends: Z-A.
Powers
Sturdy lets it survive a hit that would otherwise knock it out from full health. Weak Armor trades Defense for Speed when it takes a physical blow, and the hidden Sand Force strengthens its Rock, Ground and Steel moves in a sandstorm. With 85 base Defense and only 15 base Speed, it is slow and tough.
Name origin
Roggenrola may come from 'rock' and 'rock and roll'. The Japanese name is Dangoro (ダンゴロ), possibly from dango, a Japanese dumpling, and goro goro, the sound of a boulder rolling.
Design inspiration
Bulbapedia suggests Roggenrola draws on geodes and on elementals, spirits of earth. No designer is credited, so this is a fan reading.
Evolution notes
Roggenrola evolves into Boldore at level 25.
In the games
Roggenrola is a cave regular across regions: Wellspring Cave in Black and White, its debut games, Relic Passage in Black 2 and White 2, Reflection Cave in X and Y, and Ten Carat Hill in the Alola games.
In the anime
Roggenrola debuted in 'Gotta Catch A Roggenrola!', where Team Rocket went after fourteen of them and Ash ended the episode by catching one.
Fun facts

- Roggenrola's hexagon is an ear, not an eye, yet in Pokémon GO a Shadow Roggenrola's glows red anyway.
