Lore
Biology
Blaziken is a chicken-like fighter, 1.9 m tall and 52 kg, with a mostly red body and beige, yellow and grey accents. Beige, hair-like feathers stream behind its head, it has blue eyes and a hooked, beak-like mouth, and shaggy yellow feathers cover its legs. Grey bands on its wrists can sprout flame, and so can its ankles. Every several years its plumage burns off and is replaced by supple new feathers.
Behaviour
Blaziken is courageous. The Pokédex says the stronger the foe, the more fiercely its wrist flames burn, and that it learns martial arts based on punches and kicks.
Habitat
The Pokédex lists grasslands, and Bulbapedia calls it a rare sight in the wild. In Scarlet and Violet it comes from evolving a Combusken in The Indigo Disk.
Powers
Blaze boosts its Fire moves when its HP is low, and Speed Boost is hidden. It learns Blaze Kick as it evolves, which Bulbapedia calls its signature move in Generation III, and later Flare Blitz and Brave Bird, with Close Combat by TM. Using Blazikenite it becomes Mega Blaziken, which keeps both types but gains Speed Boost as its only Ability and a base Attack of 160. In a flurry of savage kicks, Mega Blaziken's legs can set alight from friction with the air. With Attack 120 and Special Attack 110, it had the highest Attack and base stat total of any Fire type introduced in Generation III.
Name origin
Blaziken may combine 'blaze' and 'chicken'. The Japanese name is Bursyamo (バシャーモ), which may mix 'burn' or 'burst' with 軍鶏 shamo, the fighting-chicken breed.
Design inspiration
Ken Sugimori designed Blaziken, one of the first Hoenn Pokémon drawn, according to Bulbapedia. It may be based on a shamo chicken, with feathery legs like a Cochin's, and its burning feathers recall the phoenix. Its Fighting type and flying-knee pose may draw on Muay Thai. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Blaziken evolves from Combusken at level 36 and is the final form of the Torchic line.
In the games
Blaziken is a playable fighter in Pokkén Tournament, where it Mega Evolves in Synergy Burst. It debuted in Ruby and Sapphire as the final stage of Birch's Torchic, and in PokéPark Wii it leads the Cavern and Lava Zones. In Legends: Z-A it appears only in the Mega Dimension DLC, in Hyperspace Lumiose's tougher Fire-type and Fighting-type wild zones.
In the anime
Harrison's Blaziken debuted in 'Pop Goes The Sneasel' and later beat Ash's Charizard in the Silver Conference quarterfinals in 'Johto Photo Finish'. May's Combusken evolved into a Blaziken in 'Once More With Reeling!'.

- In Pokémon UNITE it is a close-range all-rounder that starts the match as Torchic, becomes Combusken at level 5 and Blaziken at level 7.
