Comfey official artwork

Comfey is a Fairy-type Pokémon, the Posy Picker Pokémon, number 764 (#0764) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 7 and comes from the Alola region. It is 0.1 m tall and weighs 0.3 kg.

Comfey wears a ring of flowers that, the Pokédex says, never wither, and the scent has a healing effect. The Posy Picker Pokémon is a tiny Fairy type whose aroma, says Bulbapedia, helps treat patients in hospitals and Pokémon Centers.

Lore

Biology

Comfey is only 0.1 m tall and weighs 0.3 kg. It is a light green creature with an orange face, a fluffy green crest and yellow fluff along the sides of its face. Thin blue vines trail from behind its head and carry a ring of flowers, usually white, purple, red or yellow, and it clasps the end of the vine with its two short arms. Each Comfey wears different flowers, so each has its own scent.

Behaviour

Comfey picks flowers with its sticky vine and fixes them on with fluid from its body. It feels uneasy without them. It gives flower rings to those it likes, and it can throw flowers at enemies to make an opening to attack or run. Bulbapedia says it sleeps with a smile and a flower near its face, whose scent helps it rest.

Habitat

The Violet entry says it prefers areas with lots of flowers. In the games it lives in Alola's Lush Jungle and in the Coastal Biome of The Indigo Disk.

Powers

Flower Veil protects Grass-type allies from stat drops, Triage lets its healing moves go first, and its hidden Ability Natural Cure clears status conditions when it switches out. It learns Draining Kiss, Synthesis, Floral Healing at level 30, Petal Dance and Grassy Terrain. Special Defense 110 and Speed 100 make it a quick, bulky healer.

Name origin

Comfey may blend comfy, comfort, comfrey (a herb) and fey, with lei too. The Japanese name is Cuwawa (キュワワー), which may draw on wa ('ring'), furawā ('flower'), cure and cute.

Design inspiration

Comfey seems to be modelled on the lei, the Hawaiian flower garland, a fit for Alola's Hawaiian inspiration. Bulbapedia suggests its friendly behaviour and its use in hospitals may echo the lei's meaning of love and hospitality, and some Pokédex entries seem to nod to aromatherapy.

In the games

Comfey is found in Alola's Lush Jungle in Sun and Moon, where it debuted, and comes to Scarlet and Violet with The Indigo Disk, where it appears in 3-star Tera Raids. It is not available in Legends: Z-A.

In the anime

Comfey debuted in 'First Catch in Alola, Ketchum-Style!' as one of the Pokémon that assist Nurse Joys in Alola. Brock was revealed to have a Comfey in 'Heart of Fire! Heart of Stone!', a thank-you from the Nurse Joy of Melemele Island.
