Lore

Biology

Corvisquire is a crow-like bird with navy back and tail feathers, a blue-grey breast, black wing-tips and ruff, and a mask-like crest above red eyes with white patches beneath them. It is 0.8 m tall and weighs 16 kg. The Scarlet Pokédex puts its cleverness down to an unusually big brain, large next to those of other birds.

Behaviour

The Pokédex says many harsh battles have taught Corvisquire to judge an opponent's strength accurately before it commits to a fight. The Violet entry says it quickly picks up the use of whatever tool its beak or talons can grip.

Habitat

Canon gives no habitat for Corvisquire. In Scarlet and Violet it lives in Paldea's East and South Provinces, with set spawns in East Province Areas One and Three, and it also appears in 3-star Tera Raid Battles.

Diet

Bulbapedia says it preys on Steenee.

Powers

It has the same Abilities as Rookidee. Drill Peck comes at level 34 and Brave Bird at level 46, and it can learn Hurricane, Air Slash and Nasty Plot by TM. With 77 base Speed and modest 68 HP, it is a quick but fragile middle stage.

Name origin

Corvisquire may combine 'corvid', 'squire' and 'esquire', which suits a bird on the way to becoming a knight. The Japanese name is Aogarasu (アオガラス), from ao ('blue'), aogara (the Eurasian blue tit) and karasu ('crow').

Design inspiration

The Raven Pokémon category points to a raven, but Bulbapedia says a jackdaw or hooded crow, both found in Britain, is also possible, and its blue may refer to jays. The tool use in its Violet Pokédex entry may reference the New Caledonian crow. These are fan readings.

Evolution notes

Corvisquire evolves from Rookidee at level 18 and into Corviknight at level 38.

In the games

Legends: Z-A has a Pokédex entry for Corvisquire, but wild ones only arrive with the Mega Dimension DLC, in Hyperspace Lumiose's 3-star and 4-star Flying zones. It first appeared in Sword and Shield.

In the anime

Corvisquire debuted in 'Someone We Can't See! Whosawhatsit?' as a wild Pokémon, and it unknowingly led Roy to Levincia after catching the attention of his Wattrel.
