Lore
Biology
Dreepy is a small, green reptile-like Pokémon, 0.5 m tall and 2 kg, with a serpentine body and two long front limbs. Its head is a deeper green with yellow eyes, pink gills and eyelids, and big horns tipped in pink; three fins circle a dark stripe near its tail.
Behaviour
The Pokédex says groups of Dreepy fly at high speed over the ocean in the evening, prodding Pokémon in the water as a game. It also likes to snap at Clauncher, though it does not feed on them, and the Pokédex says this is a leftover from when it was alive.
Habitat
The Pokédex says it drifts back to its old haunts in the prehistoric seas where it lived before becoming a ghost. In Scarlet and Violet it is a Violet exclusive in the wild, living across the South, East and West Provinces and on Glaseado Mountain, and it also appears in 3 star Tera Raid Battles.
Powers
Dreepy has Clear Body or Infiltrator, with Cursed Body hidden. It nips with Bite, strikes with Quick Attack and Sucker Punch, and can learn Draco Meteor. Speed is its best base stat at 82, and it is fragile everywhere else.
Name origin
Dreepy may combine 'dragon' or 'dreary' with 'creepy'. The Japanese name is Dorameshiya (ドラメシヤ), which may blend 'dragon' with urameshiya, a phrase ghosts traditionally say.
Design inspiration
Dreepy appears to combine an undead prehistoric amphibian, Diplocaulus, with a dart or missile. Its Dragon type may reference the olm, a European cave salamander that locals once believed to be a baby dragon. These are fan readings, not official statements.
Evolution notes
Dreepy evolves into Drakloak at level 50, and Drakloak evolves into Dragapult at level 60.
In the games
Players find Dreepy at the Lake of Outrage and in Max Raid Battles in Sword and Shield, the games that introduced it. In Scarlet and Violet it can also be traded over from Violet to Scarlet. It is not available in Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
Two Dreepy debuted in 'Sword and Shield: The Darkest Day!' as the Dragon Darts fired by Leon's Dragapult. Dreepy also features in the video for Polkadot Stingray's song 'Ghost Dive'.
