Farigiraf official artwork

Farigiraf is a Normal/Psychic-type Pokémon, the Long Neck Pokémon, number 981 (#0981) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 9 and comes from the Paldea region. It is 3.2 m tall and weighs 160 kg.

Farigiraf is what happens when Girafarig's tail head moves to the front and hardens over its main head, so two brains share one helmet. The Pokédex says the linked brain waves make its psychic power 10 times stronger than Girafarig's.

How to pronounce Farigiraf

Lore

Biology

Farigiraf is a quadruped, 3.2 m tall and 160 kg, with an orange body, a long brown neck and black hooves. Its old tail head has fused over its main head as a hard dark brown hood with a black face, sharp teeth and four bulb-tipped antennae, so it has no visible tail. Bulbapedia says thick nerves join its two brains, and the hood's eyes glow green when it uses psychic powers.

Behaviour

Bulbapedia says Farigiraf is always watching its surroundings and its brains spot danger instantly, though its body sometimes reacts slowly. The Pokédex says the hard tail head protects the main head while Farigiraf swings its long neck at enemies in a headbutt, which Bulbapedia says can break stone and steel beams.

Habitat

The Pokédex gives no habitat. In Scarlet and Violet it is found in Area Zero.

Powers

Its Abilities are Cud Chew and Armor Tail, with Sap Sipper hidden. Bulbapedia says no other known Pokémon can have Armor Tail, which blocks priority moves aimed at its side. With base HP 120 and Special Attack 110 it is a bulky special attacker, backed by Zen Headbutt and Psychic Noise.

Name origin

Farigiraf is Girafarig reversed, which may reflect its tail head moving to the front. The Japanese name is Rikikirin (リキキリン), which may combine riki (power) and kirin (giraffe) and likewise flips Kirinriki.

Design inspiration

Farigiraf looks like a giraffe, and Bulbapedia says it shares traits with Sivatherium and Decennatherium, four-horned prehistoric giraffe relatives. Its old tail wrapped round its head resembles a kigurumi or mascot costume hood. These are fan readings.

Evolution notes

Farigiraf is Girafarig's only evolution, reached by levelling up a Girafarig that knows Twin Beam.

In the games

Farigiraf is found in Area Zero in Scarlet and Violet, where it debuted. It also appears in 4-star and 6-star Tera Raids and The Indigo Disk's Savanna Biome. It is not available in Legends: Z-A.

In the anime

Farigiraf first appeared as a picture on a magazine that Dot found in 'Liko vs. Rika! Towards the Battle's End', and made its physical debut in 'Wynaut?! Wy-Yes!', both in Pokémon Horizons.

Fun facts

  • By poke.si's data it is the heaviest Normal type and the tallest Psychic type among Pokémon introduced in Generation IX.
  • Unlike its English name, Rikikirin is not a palindrome; Bulbapedia suggests this is because Japanese words cannot begin with the character ン (n).
  • Bulbapedia notes that Farigiraf and Wyrdeer are alike: both are Psychic types, both evolve from Generation II Pokémon through a move, and Sap Sipper is a Hidden Ability for each.
