Lore
Biology
Floragato is a bipedal green cat, 0.9 m tall and 12.2 kg, with long fur that drapes over its shoulders like a poncho, dark green paws and a mask-like pattern on its face. The vine tucked inside its fur ends in a hard, round pink flower bud, rather like a buttonhole flower, which sits on the left of its chest when not in use. The Pokédex says the hardness of its fur follows its mood.
Behaviour
Bulbapedia calls Floragato intelligent, dexterous and mischievous, a show-off that wants attention and company. If its Trainer ignores it, it may play pranks, like binding the Trainer in its vine while they sleep.
Habitat
The Pokédex gives no habitat. In Scarlet and Violet, Floragato is found only by evolving Sprigatito.
Powers
Its Ability is Overgrow, with Protean hidden. The Pokédex says it deftly wields the hidden vine, swinging the hard bud into opponents. It learns Seed Bomb, U-turn, Slash, Energy Ball, Play Rough and, at level 46, Leaf Storm. With 80 base Attack and 83 Speed, it is quick and hits harder than Sprigatito.
Name origin
Floragato may blend the Spanish and Portuguese flor ('flower') or the Latin flora with gato ('cat'). The Japanese name Nyarote (ニャローテ) may blend nyā with the Spanish brote, 'sprout'.
Design inspiration
Floragato appears to be a cat with Siamese-style dark points on its face and paws. Its roguish look may come from the heroes of Spanish picaresque novels, and the boot-like scallops on its legs and its sly nature may nod to Puss in Boots. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Floragato evolves from Sprigatito at level 16 and into Meowscarada at level 36.
In the games
Floragato is the middle stage of the Grass partner Pokémon line that first appeared in Scarlet and Violet, and it can also be found in Pokémon Sleep on Greengrass Isle. It is not available in Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
Liko's Sprigatito evolved into Floragato in 'From So Far Away', while fighting the Black Rayquaza. Liko's Floragato Terastallised into Grass for the first time in 'Put Your Heart Into It!', and evolved into Meowscarada in 'The Earthshaking White Zygarde'.
