Lore

Biology

Greedent is a plump, tan and brown squirrel with a buck tooth, stumpy limbs and messy fur. It is 0.6 m tall and weighs 6 kg. The Pokédex says its tail is roughly twice as long as its body.

Behaviour

Greedent is greedy and gluttonous. The Pokédex says it heads straight for any berry tree, even mid-battle, and wraps heaps of fallen berries in its tail. The Pokédex says berries fall out of the tail constantly, but it is slow-witted and does not notice.

Habitat

The Pokédex says it is common throughout Galar. In Scarlet and Violet it lives in Paldea's forests and mountains, such as Tagtree Thicket, and in Kitakami. It is unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.

Diet

Berries, shells and all: the Pokédex says its strong teeth can chew through the toughest Berry shells.

Powers

Like Skwovet, it can have Cheek Pouch, which heals it whenever it eats a Berry, or the hidden Ability Gluttony. It hits with Body Slam, Bullet Seed, Super Fang and Belch. A bulky attacker with 120 base HP, it is very slow. It also has a Cook form that exists only in Pokémon Pokopia, with an orange scarf and kitchen tools on its body.

Name origin

Greedent may combine 'greed' and 'rodent'. The Japanese name is Yokubarisu (ヨクバリス), from yokubari ('greed') and risu ('squirrel').

Design inspiration

The Eurasian red squirrel may be Greedent's model. Bulbapedia suggests its dim wits compared with Skwovet could reference grey squirrels being smarter than red ones, and its forgotten food may allude to real squirrels' lost caches. These are fan readings.

Evolution notes

Greedent evolves from Skwovet at level 24 and learns Covet as it does.

In the games

In Pokémon Pokopia, Chef Dente is a supporting character who teaches Ditto recipes that temporarily power up its moves. Greedent itself first appeared in Sword and Shield.

In the anime

Goh's Skwovet evolved into Greedent in 'Crowning the Chow Crusher!', which let it win the Pokémon Grand Eating Contest. In 'As Long as I'm with My Friends' a wild Greedent stole the Cheri Berries that Roy and Fuecoco had collected.

Fun facts

  • Bulbapedia says it may even stash a Bounsweet in its tail, because it finds the sweet scent attractive.
  • Bulbapedia notes that taking damage in the games makes it drop a Leppa Berry from its tail.
  • Its German name Schlaraffel nods to Schlaraffenland, the medieval folklore land of plenty, plus raffen ('to snatch').
  • In Pokémon UNITE you play it as a melee defender, beginning as Skwovet and evolving at level 5.
