Gumshoos

Gumshoos is a Normal-type Pokémon, the Stakeout Pokémon, number 735 (#0735) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 7 and comes from the Alola region. It is 0.7 m tall and weighs 14.2 kg.
Gumshoos is the Stakeout Pokémon, a mongoose detective in a coat of fur that waits patiently along its prey's route and then pounces. Unfortunately it hunts by day while its favourite meal, Rattata, comes out at night, so the Pokédex says it never meets one.

Lore
Biology
Gumshoos is 0.7 m tall and 14.2 kg. It walks on all fours but can rise onto its hind legs and clasp its hands behind its back, like a human. Its brown coat has a yellow underside, and the tufts of fur at its shoulders and hips look like an open trench coat.
Behaviour
Gumshoos is patient and tenacious, able to wait a long time without eating, but the Pokédex says it loses control and pounces the moment it spots its favourite meal. When the sun sets its stamina runs out, and it falls asleep where it stands.
Habitat
The Pokédex says Gumshoos is not native to Alola and was brought over long ago during a huge Rattata outbreak. In Scarlet and Violet it is found across Paldea, including the Asado Desert and Glaseado Mountain.
Diet
Its favourite meal is Rattata and Raticate.
Powers
Stakeout doubles its moves' power against any Pokémon that has just switched in. Strong Jaw strengthens biting moves such as Bite and Crunch, and Adaptability is hidden. It also uses Super Fang and Thrash. A Totem Gumshoos in Alola carries Z-Power, a golden aura of energy from Ultra Wormholes. With base Attack 110 and HP 88 it hits hard and soaks up damage.
Name origin
Gumshoos combines 'gumshoe' (a detective) and 'mongoose', and may also play on 'gumption'. The Japanese name is Dekagoose (デカグース), possibly from deka (slang for a detective) and 'mongoose'.
Design inspiration
Gumshoos looks modelled on a mongoose or honey badger given a detective theme, which shows in how it keeps watch on Rattata nests with Stakeout, once its signature Ability. The fur on its head looks like a flat cap or a comb-over.
Evolution notes
Gumshoos evolves from Yungoos at level 20, but only when it levels up during the day.
In the games
In Sun and Ultra Sun a Totem Gumshoos guards Ilima's trial in Verdant Cavern, rewarding the player with a Normalium Z. It is not available in Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
Gumshoos debuted in 'To Top a Totem!' as the Totem's ally, beaten by Pikachu's Iron Tail, and the Totem rewarded Ash with a Normalium Z. Melemele Island's Officer Jenny later has one of her own.
