Lore

Biology

Indeedee is 0.9 m tall and weighs 28 kg. Both genders are dark purple and white, with white faces, rounded heads, pear-shaped bodies and three-fingered hands and three-toed feet. The male has upturned spiral horns, blue markings between the eyes and a navy body with more white on the legs. The female has downturned horns, pink markings above the eyes and a white body with darker legs.

Behaviour

Indeedee bustles about looking after people and other Pokémon, hunting out cheerful moods, gratitude and joy. The Pokédex says it never leaves its Trainer's side, predicts their actions with psychic power and handles their everyday needs. It dislikes conflict, and throws things at anyone fighting on its territory.

Habitat

The Pokédex gives no habitat. In Scarlet and Violet it lives in the north of Paldea, and in the Kitakami region of The Teal Mask, including Oni Mountain and the Kitakami Wilds.

Powers

Males can have Inner Focus and females Own Tempo, both with Synchronize and the hidden Psychic Surge, which sets Psychic Terrain. Males are faster, with base Special Attack 105 and Speed 95; females are bulkier, with Special Defense 105 and HP 70. Both use Psychic and Calm Mind and support with Helping Hand and After You.

Name origin

Indeedee may come from 'indeed' and the phrase 'Yes indeedy'. The Japanese name is Yessan (イエッサン), which may blend 'yessir' with the honorific san, or 'yes, and...'.

Design inspiration

Saya Tsuruta designed both forms. Indeedee may be based on the Lares, household gods of ancient Rome, or on British brownies, helpful house spirits, and the two genders recall a butler and a maid. These are fan readings.

In the games

Players meet the male Indeedee in the wild in Sword and the female in Shield, the games that introduced it. In Scarlet and Violet it is found in the wild and in Tera Raids, and in Legends: Z-A it is wild only in the Mega Dimension DLC's Hyperspace Lumiose.

In the anime

Male and female Indeedee debuted in 'Toughing It Out!' as a Galarian Nurse Joy's Pokémon. A female Indeedee also took on an Articuno in a raid battle for Horace in 'Battling in the Freezing Raid!', and lost.

Fun facts

  • Before Scarlet and Violet version 2.0.1, female Indeedee could not learn Trick Room by TM; the only way to get it was a bug in 5 star Tera Raids that gave the female the male's moves.
  • Bulbapedia says it is the only Pokémon whose Egg Moves depend on its gender.
  • It shares the Emotion Pokémon category with Kirlia and Mesprit.
