Lore

Biology

Inteleon is a slim, upright chameleon with a light blue body, dark blue stripes and a yellow, fin-like crest that runs down into a cape-like membrane on its back. It is 1.9 m tall and weighs 45.2 kg. The Pokédex says its darkened nictitating membranes (see-through inner eyelids) find weak points, and Bulbapedia adds that they also detect body heat. The Sword Pokédex says a back membrane lets it glide, and Bulbapedia says its tail hides sharp, retractable frills.

Behaviour

Bulbapedia describes Inteleon as highly intelligent, chivalrous and completely loyal to Trainers it judges worthy. The Violet Pokédex says the good manners are partly an act: it is still lazy at heart and slacks off whenever its Trainer is not looking.

Habitat

Canon gives no habitat for Inteleon. In Scarlet and Violet it arrives by trade or Poké Portal News events, or by evolving Drizzile in The Indigo Disk, and it is unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.

Powers

Torrent boosts its Water moves when it is low on health, and the hidden Ability Sniper makes critical hits hit harder. Snipe Shot, which ignores moves and Abilities that redirect attacks, is learned on evolving, and Bulbapedia says no other Pokémon can learn it. Gigantamax Inteleon, introduced in The Isle of Armor, barely grows, but its tail stretches to over 40 m (130 feet) like a tower and only it can use G-Max Hydrosnipe. With 125 base Special Attack and 120 Speed it is a fast special attacker.

Name origin

Inteleon may blend 'intel' (short for intelligence, as in spy work) or 'intellect' with 'chameleon'. The Japanese name is Intereon (インテレオン), built from the same idea.

Design inspiration

Bulbapedia reads Inteleon as a chameleon, perhaps a veiled chameleon, with the crest and upright posture of basilisk lizards and the gliding membranes of Draco flying lizards. Its blue-and-black colouring resembles a tuxedo, and the knife, gun and glider motifs suit a British-style spy. The Gigantamax form looks like a sniper on a tower. These are fan readings.

Evolution notes

Sobble evolves into Drizzile at level 16, and Drizzile evolves into Inteleon at level 35.

In the games

Inteleon is the final form of Sobble, one of the three starters of Sword and Shield. In Pokémon Masters EX, Gloria and Bede both have Inteleon sync pairs.

In the anime

Jacqueline's Inteleon debuted in 'Sobble Spies a Stealthy Strategy!' and co-stars in her movies, which makes it a target for Team Rocket. Goh's Drizzile evolved into Inteleon in 'Detective Drizzile!'.

Fun facts

  • In French it is Lézargus, from lézard (lizard) and Argus, an old word for a watcher or spy named after a figure of Greek myth.
  • Bulbapedia says Gigantamax Inteleon can work out gravity's pull for a trajectory shot fired at Mach 7, enough to hit a moving Berry 15 km (9 miles) away.
  • In the Journeys anime Goh's Inteleon camouflages itself like its earlier forms and has infrared vision.
  • In Pokémon UNITE you play it as a ranged attacker: it begins as Sobble, turns into Drizzile at level 5 and reaches Inteleon at level 7.
