Lore

Biology

Lillipup is a light brown puppy, 0.4 m tall and 4.1 kg, with a cream face hidden in fur, a red nose, large pointed ears with a tuft at the base and a spiky dark blue blaze down its back. Its fur also puffs out above its paws, and it has a short, tufty tail.

Behaviour

Lillipup is intelligent, obedient and easy to raise, which makes it popular with beginners. The Pokédex says it is much sharper than most children and never forgets how it is treated, whether with kindness or cruelty.

Habitat

The Pokédex names no habitat. Wild Lillipup live on Routes 1, 2 and 3 in Black and White and on Routes 4, 5 and 6 and Paniola Ranch in Sun and Moon.

Powers

Its Abilities are Vital Spirit and Pickup, with Run Away hidden. In Sword and Shield it learns Bite at level 8, Play Rough at 20, Crunch at 24 and Reversal at 36. Attack of 60 is its best stat.

Name origin

Lillipup may combine 'Lilliputian' (tiny) and 'pup'. The Japanese name is Yorterrie (ヨーテリー), which may derive from Yorkshire terrier.

Design inspiration

A Yorkshire terrier puppy is the model for Lillipup.

Evolution notes

Lillipup evolves into Herdier at level 16, and Herdier into Stoutland at level 32.

In the games

Lillipup is one of the first wild Pokémon you meet in Black and White, on the early routes. In Sword and Shield it appears in the Isle of Armor expansion, but Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Scarlet and Violet and Legends: Z-A.

In the anime

Lenora's Lillipup debuted in 'The Battle According to Lenora!', where it beat Ash's Tepig in his Gym battle. The English dub of the next episode claims it evolved into a Herdier, while the original version treats the Herdier as a different Pokémon.
