Medicham

Medicham is a Fighting/Psychic-type Pokémon, the Meditate Pokémon, number 308 (#0308) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 3 and comes from the Hoenn region. It is 1.3 m tall and weighs 31.5 kg.
Medicham is the Meditate Pokémon in its finest form, a Fighting and Psychic type whose yoga training gave it the psychic power to predict a foe's next move. In Mega form it conjures four ghostly arms, and the Pokédex says its mental power becomes limitless.

Lore
Biology
Medicham is a grey humanoid 1.3 m tall and 31.5 kg, trimmed in rose pink and yellow. A red headpiece with three rounded knobs, one on top and one at each side, covers its head, and the top knob is shorter on females. It wears puffy red trousers marked with a big yellow spot on each knee. Through meditation and fasting, the Pokédex says, it developed a sixth sense, and Bulbapedia notes it can sense aura, as the anime episode 'Sliding Into Seventh!' showed.
Behaviour
Medicham fights elegantly. The Pokédex says it avoids attacks with dance-like steps and strikes back hard in the same motion, and one entry adds that it can read what others are thinking.
Habitat
The Pokédex says it hides its presence by merging with fields and mountains. In Scarlet and Violet it lives in Alfornada Cavern and South Province's Area Six, and in Legends: Z-A it is found in Wild Zone 16 in Bleu District and Wild Zone 20 in Centrico Plaza.
Diet
Very little: the Pokédex says it has been known to go a full month meditating without food, and that fasting sharpens its mind.
Powers
Medicham has Pure Power, which doubles Attack, with Telepathy hidden. It uses High Jump Kick, Zen Headbutt, Force Palm and the elemental Punch moves, and boosts itself with Calm Mind. Mega Medicham, using Medichamite, keeps the Fighting and Psychic types and Pure Power; Bulbapedia says it forms four ghost-like arms from malevolent energy, and its Attack and Speed both reach 100. Base Speed 80 makes it quick for a fighter.
Name origin
Medicham may combine 'meditate' and 'champion'. The Japanese name is Charem (チャーレム), which may draw on 'charm', harem pants, 'champion', 'channeling' and possibly 'challenge'.
Design inspiration
Medicham appears to be based on a yoga practitioner, but Bulbapedia also suggests Arabian belly dancers, since its trousers resemble badlah pants, along with Shaolin monks and Hindu figures such as Ardhanari, a fusion of Shiva and Shakti. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Medicham evolves from Meditite at level 37 and is the final form of the line.
In the games
Mega Medicham is available in Legends: Z-A, where the Mega Dimension DLC also features Medicham. It first appeared in Ruby and Sapphire, belongs to Team Meanies in the first Rescue Team games and to Team Charm in the Explorers games of the Mystery Dungeon series, and appears in 4-star Tera Raid Battles in Scarlet and Violet.
In the anime
Medicham debuted in 'Pros and Con Artists' as Grace's Pokémon. Candice's Medicham took on Ash's Staraptor in a Gym battle in 'Sliding Into Seventh!' but lost to Brave Bird.
Fun facts
- Legends: Z-A has no Abilities, so Medicham gained 24 base Attack to make up for losing Pure Power, and Mega Medicham gained 40. Bulbapedia says Mega Medicham is one of only three Mega Evolutions to gain over 100 base stat points, the others being Mega Mawile and Mega Starmie.
- Its official artwork shows the female form, and in Generation III, before gender differences existed, every Meditite and Medicham looked female.
- In the Pokémon: Paldean Winds episode 'Breathe Together', a Medicham appears under Dendra's ownership.
