Lore
Biology
Nickit is a slender orange-maroon fox kit with long black ears, eyebrow-like white spots and a mask-like pattern around its yellow eyes. Its chest and belly are white, its feet are black, and its long tail ends in a black tip shaped like a sack. It is 0.6 m tall and weighs 8.9 kg. The soft pads on its feet let it creep silently, says the Pokédex.
Behaviour
Nickit would rather steal food than look for its own. The Sword Pokédex says it silently raids other Pokémon's food stores, and the Z-A entry says it robs people and Pokémon alike. Bulbapedia says Purrloin is its bitter rival.
Habitat
Canon gives no habitat for Nickit. In Sword and Shield it lives on Routes 1 and 2, Dusty Bowl, Giant's Mirror and Stony Wilderness. It is unobtainable in Scarlet and Violet.
Diet
Stolen food: the Pokédex says it survives on what it takes.
Powers
Run Away guarantees escape from wild battles, Unburden doubles its Speed when it uses or loses a held item, and the hidden Ability Stakeout doubles its damage against Pokémon that just switched in. It learns Quick Attack, Sucker Punch, Night Slash and Foul Play, and uses Nasty Plot to boost its Special Attack. It is frail, with a base stat total of only 245.
Name origin
Nickit may join 'nick' (British slang for stealing) to 'kit' (a baby fox), and it also sounds like 'nick it'. The Japanese name is Kusune (クスネ), mixing the verb kusuneru (meaning to pilfer) with kitsune (fox).
Design inspiration
Nickit looks modelled on a red fox kit, perhaps borrowing patterns from the cross fox, with its grey Shiny colouring resembling the silver fox. The mask-like face markings and glove-like front paws may nod to burglars, and the tail looks like a sack of loot as well as a broom for hiding tracks. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Nickit evolves into Thievul at level 18.
In the games
In Legends: Z-A wild Nickit arrive only with the Mega Dimension DLC, in the 1-star and 3-star Dark zones of Hyperspace Lumiose. It first appeared in Sword and Shield.
In the anime
A trio of Nickit debuted in 'Settling the Scorbunny!', stealing scones in Wyndon until Ash and Goh stepped in, and they then urged Goh's Scorbunny to go with him. They were reunited with its evolved form, Cinderace, in 'Just a Scone's Throw From Here!'.
