Panpour is a Water-type Pokémon, the Spray Pokémon, number 515 (#0515) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 5 and comes from the Unova region. It is 0.6 m tall and weighs 13.5 kg.

Panpour is the Spray Pokémon, a blue monkey that stores nutrient-rich water in its head tuft and sprays it from its tail to water plants. The Pokédex says plants that get its water grow large.

Lore

Biology

Panpour is a blue-and-cream monkey, 0.6 m tall and 13.5 kg, with a puffy, wave-like crest on its head that holds the water and a frilled blue collar on its neck and shoulders. Its eyes are usually closed, and its tail ends in a clover-shaped tip. Its hands look fingerless apart from a thumb.

Behaviour

Panpour waters plants with the water in its tuft, shooting it from its tail. The Pokédex says it does not thrive in dry places, so it sprays itself to stay damp.

Habitat

Bulbapedia says it usually stays close to water. In Black and White it lives in the inner Pinwheel Forest and Lostlorn Forest. In Legends: Z-A it is wild in all five Lumiose districts, with more in the Mega Dimension DLC's Hyperspace Lumiose.

Powers

Gluttony lets it eat a held Berry early, while Torrent, its hidden Ability, boosts Water moves when it is low on health. It learns Water Gun, Scald and Brine, and later Crunch. With base Speed 64 and 53 in both Attack and Special Attack, its stats are modest.

Name origin

Panpour may combine Pan, the chimpanzee genus, with 'pour'. The Japanese name is Hiyappu (ヒヤップ), which may come from hiya ('cool water') and 'ape'.

Design inspiration

Like its two siblings, Panpour was designed by Takao Unno as a partner for a Striaton Gym Leader, here Cress. The crest on its head resembles a fountain or geyser, and Bulbapedia also suggests a pun on Sea-Monkeys. With its eyes closed, it seems to stand for 'see no evil' in the three wise monkeys motif. These are fan readings.

Evolution notes

Panpour evolves into Simipour when a Water Stone is used on it.

In the games

In Black and White, Panpour is the Water partner of Cress, one of the three Striaton Gym Leaders, who uses it against players who chose Tepig. It is not in Scarlet and Violet.

In the anime

Cress's Panpour debuted in 'Triple Leaders, Team Threats!' and beat Ash's Pikachu in a Gym battle. Goh caught one in 'Thrash of the Titans!'.

Fun facts
