Politoed

Politoed is a Water-type Pokémon, the Frog Pokémon, number 186 (#0186) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 2 and comes from the Johto region. It is 1.1 m tall and weighs 33.9 kg.
Politoed is the Frog Pokémon, a king whose curl of hair is its crown: the longer and curlier it is, the more Poliwag and Poliwhirl obey it. Its cry carries so far that they gather from every direction, though the Pokédex admits it sounds a lot like shouting.

Lore
Biology
Politoed is 1.1 m tall and weighs 33.9 kg: a green, upright frog with yellow on its hands, belly, throat and toes, a green swirl on its belly and a long curl of hair on its head. It likes to puff out its throat and sing, and three or more together sing in a chorus that sounds like bellowing.
Behaviour
Poliwag and Poliwhirl flock to a Politoed from far away when they hear its cry. At nightfall it comes to lake shores and shouts to claim its territory. A male's cry is louder than a female's, and the Pokédex says a deep, menacing voice makes a male more popular.
Habitat
The Pokédex habitat is the water's edge, and Bulbapedia says it is rarely wild and usually lives by the water. In Scarlet and Violet it arrives by transfer or trade, or by evolving a Poliwhirl in The Teal Mask; it is unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.
Powers
Its Abilities are Water Absorb and Damp, and its hidden Ability is Drizzle, which brings rain as it enters battle. It uses Rain Dance, Hydro Pump, Surf, Ice Beam and Hyper Voice. With 100 base Special Defense, it is a sturdy special attacker.
Name origin
Politoed may combine 'polliwog', an old word for a tadpole, and 'toad', and may also involve 'poly' (many) and 'toed'. Its Japanese name, Nyorotono (ニョロトノ), may blend nyoronyoro (a wriggling sound) with tono ('lord') and tonosama-gaeru, the dark-spotted frog.
Design inspiration
Politoed looks like a frog. Its royal status and King's Rock evolution may nod to The Frog Prince, a fairy tale about a prince or king enchanted into a frog. Its Hidden Ability Drizzle probably nods to the link between frogs and rain in Japan, where they emerge in the rainy season.
Evolution notes
Politoed evolves from Poliwhirl when it is traded while holding a King's Rock, and it cannot evolve further.
In the games
Politoed arrived in Gold and Silver as the trade-evolved alternative to Poliwrath. In Scarlet and Violet it appears in 5-star and 6-star Tera Raid Battles in The Teal Mask's Kitakami.
In the anime
Politoed made its anime debut in 'Outrageous Fortunes', when Misty's Poliwhirl evolved into one; it is so cheerful that it sometimes loses focus in battle and starts clapping. Tammy's Politoed, Bean, appears in 'I Politoed Ya So!'.
Fun facts
- Unlike other trade evolutions, it has a much smaller movepool than its pre-evolution, which Bulbapedia thinks keeps it in line with Poliwrath.
- In the Spaceworld '97 demo, Politoed looked more like a frog and evolved using an item called a Heart Stone.
- A roundworm species, Parapharyngodon politoedi, takes its name from Politoed.
