Lore
Biology
Skiploom is a round green plant Pokémon with a yellow bloom with a white centre on its head, big flat ears and orange eyes with no pupils. It is 0.6 m tall and weighs 1 kg. It spreads its petals to soak up sunlight and floats up to get closer to the sun.
Behaviour
Skiploom loves the sun but hates rain: the Pokédex says it shuts its bloom and shelters under a tree the moment rain starts. Bulbapedia adds that it flies off to warmer regions when the weather turns too cold. Some people claim they can tell where a Skiploom was born from the scent of its flower.
Habitat
The Pokédex habitat is grassland, and Bulbapedia says temperate grassland. In Scarlet and Violet it lives in Paldea's East, South and West Provinces and appears in 3 star Tera Raid Battles.
Powers
Skiploom has Chlorophyll or Leaf Guard, with Infiltrator hidden. It learns Sleep Powder, Stun Spore and Leech Seed, and Cotton Spore comes at level 31. With base Speed 80 but base Attack and Special Attack of only 45, it is mostly a support Pokémon.
Name origin
Skiploom may combine 'skip' and 'bloom', the middle step of 'hop, skip and jump'. The Japanese name is Popocco (ポポッコ), possibly built from tanpopo (蒲公英, 'dandelion'), nekko (根っ子, 'root') and kodomo (子供, 'child').
Design inspiration
Bulbapedia reads Skiploom as a bulb and flower, specifically a dandelion, and says its body vaguely suggests a dog or a cat. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Skiploom is the middle stage of its line. It evolves from Hoppip at level 18 and into Jumpluff at level 27.
In the games
Skiploom has no major story role, and players first met it in Gold and Silver. It was unobtainable in Sword and Shield, returned in Scarlet and Violet, and is not available in Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
Skiploom debuted in 'The Grass Route' as Ephraim's 'Skippy', which battled Ash's Bulbasaur in the Grass Tournament finals. In 'Pursuing a Lofty Goal!', Steveland's Skiploom beat Jessie's Yanmega in the Squallville PokéRinger before losing to Paul's Honchkrow.

- In the Pokémon Evolutions episode 'The Show', a Skiploom helps create the visual effects for a Kimono Girls performance.
- In Scarlet and Violet it learns Tackle only at level 8, although Hoppip knows the move from the start.
