Lore
Biology
Round and blue, Jumpluff is a plant Pokémon with beady red eyes, a tail and two tiny round feet. It has three cotton puffs, one on each arm and a third on its head. It is 0.8 m tall and weighs 3 kg. Bulbapedia says inhaling the spores from its puffs can cause coughing and itching.
Behaviour
Jumpluff drifts on seasonal winds, and the Pokédex says it scatters cotton spores as it goes to make more offspring. Another entry says it rides warm southern winds across the sea and comes down when it meets cold air.
Habitat
The Pokédex habitat is grassland, and Bulbapedia says it is usually seen above open temperate grassland. In Scarlet and Violet it is found in Paldea's North Province and West Province Area Three.
Powers
Jumpluff can have Chlorophyll or Leaf Guard, with Infiltrator hidden. It scatters Sleep Powder, Stun Spore and Cotton Spore, drains health with Giga Drain, and can swap out with U-turn. Its base Speed of 110 is the highest of any Grass type introduced in Generation II.
Name origin
Jumpluff may combine 'jump', 'fluff' and possibly 'plush', finishing the 'hop, skip and jump' set. The Japanese name is Watacco (ワタッコ), possibly from 綿 wata (cotton) and 根っ子 nekko (root).
Design inspiration
Bulbapedia reads Jumpluff as the last stage of a dandelion's life cycle, the fluffy seed head, and says its pom-pom-like hands and its movements in Stadium 2 and Colosseum bring a cheerleader to mind. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Jumpluff evolves from Skiploom at level 27 and does not evolve further.
In the games
In the Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team games of the Mystery Dungeon series, a Jumpluff asks Shiftry to help save a friend trapped in the Silent Chasm, and the species first appeared in Gold and Silver. It is found in Paldea in Scarlet and Violet, and is not available in Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
In 'Hatch Me If You Can', a group of Jumpluff attacked Team Rocket when it tried to steal Ash's Larvitar. Ramos used a Jumpluff against Ash in a Gym battle in 'The Green, Green Grass Types of Home!'.
Fun facts

- Tammy's cheerleading squad in the anime episode 'I Politoed Ya So!' includes three Jumpluff.
- Bulbapedia suggests its pink Shiny colour may refer to its prototype design or to Hoppip.
