Lore
Biology
Torracat is 0.7 m tall and weighs 25 kg. Its upper half is dark grey and its lower half reddish orange, with a bristling mane of cheek fur. Its front legs are far more developed than its back legs. The fire bell on its neck is a flame sac: it blazes hotter as the cat's fighting spirit rises, and sometimes flares sideways into wing-like shapes when it attacks.
Behaviour
Torracat adores a fight, and its non-stop onslaught drains the will to fight from opponents. Around its Trainer it can act like a spoiled child, though its sharp claws can still leave the Trainer scratched all over. Its mane shows its mood: it stands on end when Torracat feels good and lies flat when it does not.
Habitat
No Pokédex entry names a natural habitat. In Scarlet and Violet it is only available in The Indigo Disk, by evolving Litten, or by trade or HOME.
Powers
Torracat spits its flames from the fire bell, with Flamethrower at level 40 and Flare Blitz at level 50, and backs them up with Fury Swipes, Bite and Double Kick. Like the rest of its line it has Blaze, with Intimidate hidden. Base Speed 90 and Attack 85 make it hit first and hard for a middle form.
Name origin
Torracat may combine 'torrid', the Spanish and Portuguese torrar ('to roast') or the Japanese tora ('tiger') with 'cat'. The Japanese name is Nyaheat (ニャヒート), possibly from nyā (meow), hi ('fire') and 'heat'.
Design inspiration
Torracat seems to be based on mackerel tabby cats, also called tiger cats, combined with real tiger features and possibly those of a lynx, caracal or serval.
Evolution notes
Torracat evolves from Litten at level 17 and into Incineroar at level 34.
In the games
Torracat is the middle stage of Alola's Fire starter and first appeared in Sun and Moon. Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
Ash's Litten evolved into Torracat in 'Pushing the Fiery Envelope!', in the middle of a battle against the Masked Royal's Incineroar.
Fun facts

- In Scarlet and Violet's data Torracat already knows Ember and Lick at level 1, while Litten has to reach levels 3 and 6 to learn them.
