Lore
Biology
Victreebel is 1.7 m tall and weighs 15.5 kg. It has a bell-shaped body with a gaping mouth, a swollen pink lip, two sharp bottom teeth and dark green spots, with a large leaf on each side. A leaf covers the top of its mouth, and from it grows a long brown vine with a yellow tip. The Pokédex says its acid can dissolve even the hardest object.
Behaviour
Victreebel flicks the vine to mimic an animal and gives off a honey-like aroma to draw prey in, then swallows it whole. Acid that has dissolved many victims turns sweeter, so the lure only gets better. The Pokédex says it lives in huge colonies deep in jungles, from which no one has returned.
Habitat
Because it comes from an evolution stone, Victreebel seldom turns up in the wild, but Bulbapedia places it in temperate forests and jungles.
Powers
Its Abilities are Chlorophyll and the hidden Gluttony. It fights with Leaf Blade, Sludge Bomb and Power Whip, and its base Attack of 105 and Special Attack of 100 make it a mixed attacker. Mega Victreebel (Grass and Poison, with the Ability Innards Out) swells with acid, wraps its own vine around its throat to stop it overflowing, and hops about tackling prey. It fans a dizzying sweet scent from the leaves on its head to immobilise foes, and its acid can eat through concrete or steel.
Name origin
Victreebel may combine 'victory', 'tree' and 'bell'; the missing L in 'bell' is likely because English names had a ten-character limit before Generation VI. The Japanese name is Utsubot (ウツボット), possibly from utsubokazura ('pitcher plant') and 'pot'.
Design inspiration
Victreebel may take after carnivorous pitcher plants, and the blue lips of its Shiny form may echo the blue glow that a pitcher plant's rim takes on under UV light. Mega Victreebel may draw on Nepenthes lower traps and their coiling vines, as well as calabash gourds, waterskins, or the water balloon yo-yos used in Japanese festival games. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Weepinbell evolves into Victreebel when exposed to a Leaf Stone, and Victreebel does not evolve further.
In the games
Victreebel's big moment in the games is its Mega Evolution in Legends: Z-A, where an Alpha one also roams Wild Zone 20 of Centrico Plaza and the Mega Dimension DLC adds it to Hyperspace Lumiose. In Scarlet and Violet it is not wild in Paldea but can be traded in, and in The Teal Mask DLC it appears in 5-star Tera Raids.
In the anime
James owned two Victreebel in the original series, both evolved from Weepinbell, and the pair fell in love and hopped off together. In 'Danger, Sweet as Honey!', Meowth was bitten and paralysed after a Victreebel woke up while Iris's Axew was peering into its mouth.
