Whismur

Whismur is a Normal-type Pokémon, the Whisper Pokémon, number 293 (#0293) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 3 and comes from the Hoenn region. It is 0.6 m tall and weighs 16.3 kg.
Whismur is the Whisper Pokémon, a shy Normal type that murmurs so quietly you can barely hear it, until something frightens it and it screams as loud as a jet plane. Then the noise scares it, so it screams even harder.

Lore
Biology
Whismur is a mauve, round-bodied biped, 0.6 m tall and 16.3 kg, with plus-sign eyes and a wide, simple mouth. Two ear canals on top of its head are covered by long yellow-tipped flaps that look like rabbit ears. The Pokédex says it breathes in through those canals, so it can cry without pausing for breath, and that the crying stops if its ear covers are shut.
Behaviour
Whismur is very timid and easily startled by loud noises. The Pokédex says it is normally too quiet to catch, yet at the first sign of danger its cry tops 100 decibels, enough to give anyone nearby an all-day headache. Its own wail startles it into crying louder, and when it finally stops it falls asleep, worn out.
Habitat
The Pokédex lists Whismur as a cave Pokémon, and in Hoenn it is found in Rusturf Tunnel. It cannot be obtained in Scarlet and Violet or in Legends: Z-A.
Powers
Whismur's Abilities are Soundproof, which protects it from sound-based moves, and the hidden Rattled, which raises its Speed when it is hit by a Dark, Ghost or Bug move. It learns noisy moves such as Echoed Voice, Uproar, Screech and Hyper Voice. With 64 base HP but only 23 base Defense and Special Defense, it is soft for its size.
Name origin
Whismur may be a blend of 'whisper' and 'murmur'. The Japanese name is Gonyonyo (ゴニョニョ), which may come from gonyo gonyo, the word for whispering or mumbling.
Design inspiration
Takao Unno designed Whismur and Loudred. Bulbapedia suggests Whismur is based on a rabbit or stuffed toy, given its small size and big ears, and the ear flaps also look like earmuffs. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Whismur evolves into Loudred at level 20.
In the games
In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Zinnia's closest companion is a female Whismur named Aster, though Aster takes no part in her battles. Whismur first appeared in Ruby and Sapphire.
In the anime
Alanna's Whismur made its anime debut in 'A Poké-BLOCK Party' and was the only one still awake after Jigglypuff sang, thanks to Soundproof. In 'Pinch Healing' Max tried to comfort a Whismur at the Pokémon Center.
