Lore
Biology
Loudred is a periwinkle-blue, square-built biped, 1 m tall and 40.5 kg. Its huge mouth shows a big tongue and a peg-like tooth in each corner, and two short stalks hold up its circular ears. Yellow stripes on its back form a pattern like sound waves. The Pokédex says it shouts by breathing in air and then forcing it out with well-developed stomach muscles.
Behaviour
Loudred stamps its feet to build power before it bellows, and the Pokédex says it punishes its foes with its voice. The Pokédex describes a weak point: once it has finished shouting it is deaf for a while. The force comes from the pressure wave of air as well as the noise itself.
Habitat
The Pokédex lists Loudred as a cave Pokémon. It cannot be obtained in Scarlet and Violet or in Legends: Z-A.
Powers
Loudred shares its line's Soundproof, and its hidden Ability Scrappy lets Normal and Fighting moves hit Ghost types. It shouts with Hyper Voice, Uproar and Screech, and also uses Stomp and Bite. Base HP of 84 and Attack and Special Attack of 71 make it a respectable middle step between Whismur and Exploud.
Name origin
Loudred may blend 'loud' with 'dread' (great fear). The Japanese name is Dogohmb (ドゴーム), which may combine dogō ('angry roar') and 'bomb'.
Design inspiration
Loudred appears to be based on a boombox, with its ears as speakers, and may also draw on a megaphone or amplifier. The curved yellow stripes on its back look like the sound-wave marks on a volume icon, and its wide mouth and blunt teeth recall a hippopotamus. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Loudred evolves from Whismur at level 20 and becomes Exploud at level 40.
In the games
In Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness, Loudred belongs to Wigglytuff's Guild: every day it wakes the player's team with its booming voice and helps on sentry duty. It first appeared in Ruby and Sapphire.
In the anime
Loudred debuted in 'A Hole Lotta Trouble', where it ran past and trod on Jessie in Granite Cave. In the following episode Jessie accidentally stepped on it as it slept, and it sent Team Rocket flying with a huge Screech.
