Wooloo official artwork

Wooloo is a Normal-type Pokémon, the Sheep Pokémon, number 831 (#0831) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 8 and comes from the Galar region. It is 0.6 m tall and weighs 6 kg.

Wooloo is the Sheep Pokémon, a round ball of fleece so springy that, the Pokédex says, it could tumble off a cliff and get up at the bottom unharmed. Let its wool grow too long, though, and it can no longer move.

Lore

Biology

Wooloo is 0.6 m tall and weighs 6 kg. It is a black sheep Pokémon wrapped in thick white wool that gives it a round shape, with a small head, two short horns and grey strings of wool at each side of its head that look like braided pigtails. Bulbapedia says its fur grows continuously and can regrow fully in three months after being shaved.

Behaviour

Wooloo is friendly and dislikes conflict; Bulbapedia says it lives in herds, copies the actions of its herd leader or Trainer, and escapes enemies by rolling away. It curls up to sleep, looking like a cotton ball. Its wool is a Galar speciality used for clothing and carpets, and the Pokédex says cloth made from it is surprisingly strong.

Habitat

The Pokédex gives no habitat. In Sword and Shield it is found on Routes 1 and 4 and at Motostoke Riverbank, and in the Crown Tundra around Slippery Slope and Frostpoint Field.

Powers

Wooloo has the Abilities Fluffy or Run Away, with Bulletproof hidden. It pads its defence with Defense Curl, Guard Split, Guard Swap and Cotton Guard, copies moves with Copycat and hits with Double Kick, Headbutt, Take Down and Double-Edge. Its best base stat is only 55, so it is mainly a stepping stone to Dubwool.

Name origin

Wooloo may combine 'wool' and 'loom', or be derived from the Japanese name. The Japanese name is Wooluu (ウールー), from ūru ('wool') with the final vowel stretched.

Design inspiration

Wooloo is based on a sheep, perhaps a black-faced breed, with wool shaped like a cotton ball. Bulbapedia says director Shigeru Ohmori told Gamer.nl that a challenge in designing it was that Mareep is already a sheep Pokémon.

Evolution notes

Wooloo evolves into Dubwool at level 24.

In the games

Wooloo is Hop's first Pokémon in Sword and Shield, its debut game, and you first meet Milo on Route 4, chasing a Wooloo that belongs to his Gym Mission. It is not available in Scarlet and Violet or Legends: Z-A.

In the anime

Hop's Wooloo battles Ash's Pikachu in 'Curtain Up! Fight the Fights!' and is beaten at once. In the series Pokémon: Twilight Wings it runs away after growing jealous of Hop's admiration for Leon's Charizard.
