Wynaut
Wynaut is a Psychic-type Pokémon, the Bright Pokémon, number 360 (#0360) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 3 and comes from the Hoenn region. It is 0.6 m tall and weighs 14 kg.
Wynaut is the Bright Pokémon, the always-smiling baby form of Wobbuffet. It toughens itself up by squashing against its friends on moonlit nights, and the way to tell it is angry is to watch its tail slapping the ground.

Biology
Wynaut is a small, two-legged Pokémon covered in turquoise fur, with a round head, fingerless ear-like arms, a bulb on its forehead and closed, upward-curving eyes. Its wide mouth has a serrated upper jaw. Its long black tail ends in a flat tip marked with a white spot like an eye. It is 0.6 m (2'00") tall and weighs 14 kg (30.9 lbs).
Behaviour
Wynaut travels in packs and sleeps in tight clusters in caves. On moonlit nights the group squeezes together to play, which the Pokédex says builds endurance and trains strong counterattacks. A Wynaut always seems to have a big happy smile, and you can tell it is annoyed because it smacks the ground with its tail.
Habitat
The Pokédex lists Wynaut as a cave Pokémon. It is not available in Scarlet and Violet or Legends: Z-A.
Diet
It loves sweet fruit, picks it using its ear-like arms and gathers in fruit gardens, drawn by the smell.
Powers
Its Ability is Shadow Tag, which stops foes from switching out, and its hidden Ability is Telepathy. Like its evolution it relies on Counter, Mirror Coat, Safeguard and Destiny Bond rather than any attack, so it can only fight back after being hit. With 95 base HP but just 23 in Attack, Special Attack and Speed, it is sturdy and very slow.
Name origin
Wynaut may be a pun on 'Why not?'. Its Japanese name, Sohnano (ソーナノ), sounds like 'sō na no?', meaning 'Really?'.
Design inspiration
Wynaut may be based on an okiagari-koboshi, a traditional Japanese doll with squinting eyes that pops back upright when it is pushed over and stands for perseverance. That is a fan reading.
Evolution notes
Wynaut evolves into Wobbuffet at level 15.
In the games
In Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky, Wynaut helps Wobbuffet run the Recycle Shop in Spinda's Cafe. It first appeared in Ruby and Sapphire, where players hatch one from an Egg given by an old couple in Lavaridge Town.
In the anime
Wynaut debuted in the Blackthorn City arc that ends with 'Why? Wynaut!', though only Jessie's Wobbuffet and Ash's Bayleef and Noctowl followed it from start to finish. Wynaut are the only residents of Mirage Island in 'Who, What, When, Where, Wynaut?'.
Fun facts
- In the anime episode 'Showdown at the Gates of Warp!', the influence of Dialga and Palkia devolved Jessie's Wobbuffet into a Wynaut, and it was changed back before the episode ended.
- In Generation III it was the only baby Pokémon found in the wild, on Mirage Island, but from Generation IV it is the only baby Pokémon that cannot be found in the wild.
- Bulbapedia says its base Special Attack of 23 is the lowest of any Psychic type.
