Metang

Metang is a Steel/Psychic-type Pokémon, the Iron Claw Pokémon, number 375 (#0375) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 3 and comes from the Hoenn region. It is 1.2 m tall and weighs 202.5 kg.
Metang is the Iron Claw Pokémon, born when two Beldum fuse into one body. A magnetic nervous system links its two brains, which doubles its psychic power but, the Pokédex insists, does nothing for its intelligence.

Lore
Biology
Metang is a robot with metallic teal skin and a disc-shaped body, 1.2 m tall and 202.5 kg. A small spike sits in the middle of its face like a nose, red eyes peer out of two holes, and two thick arms end in three sharp claws. It floats by magnetism, and the Pokédex says a collision with a jet would not scratch its steel body. Its claws can shred thick iron sheets as easily as tearing silk.
Behaviour
Metang hunts by swinging its arms backwards and flying at around 100 km/h (over 60 mph). It stops prey with psychic power, then grabs it with its claws and never lets go. It adores magnetic minerals, which is why the Pokédex says it chases Nosepass.
Habitat
Bulbapedia says it lives on rough terrain and harsh mountains. In Scarlet and Violet it appears in The Indigo Disk's Canyon Biome, Chargestone Cavern and Polar Biome, and in 4-star Tera Raid Battles. In Legends: Z-A it is at Lysandre Labs, and the Mega Dimension DLC puts it in Hyperspace Lumiose's 4-star Steel-type wild zones.
Powers
Metang has Clear Body, with Light Metal as its hidden Ability. It learns Zen Headbutt, Flash Cannon, Psychic and Meteor Mash as it levels. With base Defense of 100 and Attack of 75, it is a sturdy middle stage that mostly exists to reach level 45.
Name origin
Metang may combine 'metal' with 'tang', the ring of struck metal, and it is also an anagram of 'magnet'. The Japanese name is Metang (メタング).
Design inspiration
Metang is two Beldum merged into one, and Bulbapedia suggests it may also draw on flying saucers and crabs.
Evolution notes
Metang evolves from Beldum at level 20 and into Metagross at level 45.
In the games
Metang is the middle stage of the Beldum line, and in Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald the only way to get one is to evolve a Beldum.
In the anime
Morrison's Beldum evolves into Metang in 'Saved by the Beldum' during his Ever Grande Conference battle against Jump. Sophocles rode a Metang on Ultra Guardians missions, starting in 'A Mission of Ultra Urgency!'.
Fun facts
- No anime episode actually shows two Beldum fusing: in 'Saved by the Beldum' the Beldum 'creates' another Beldum and a new body to evolve, even though the Pokédex in 'The Synchronicity Test!' still claims Metang is two Beldum united.
- In 'Pillars of Friendship!', J's henchmen send a squad of Metang against the Battle Pyramid, and Dawn's Piplup beats them with Bubble Beam.
- Orla's Metagross appears as a Metang in a flashback in 'Flying Pikachu, Rising Higher and Higher!'.
