Lore
Biology
Mudsdale is a large horse, 2.5 m tall and 920 kg, with short brown fur, a mane and tail in black and red that hang in thick dreadlock-like locks, and a red blaze on its muzzle. Red mud coats its hooves. The Pokédex says it mixes dirt with saliva to make a mud that resists wind and rain and sets harder than stone, and that the same mud is prized for pottery.
Behaviour
Mudsdale stays calm and unmoving whatever the situation, and Bulbapedia says it never cries out, however much trouble it is in. The Pokédex says it can trudge for three days and three nights dragging 10 tons, and Bulbapedia adds that at a gallop its hooves can punch holes in asphalt.
Habitat
The Pokédex gives no habitat list. In Scarlet and Violet it is found in South Province Area Six, North Province Area One, Dalizapa Passage and Glaseado Mountain, and in 5-star Tera Raid Battles; in The Teal Mask you get one by evolving Mudbray.
Powers
Its Ability can be Own Tempo or Stamina, with Inner Focus hidden. It stamps with High Horsepower and Heavy Slam, and adds Earthquake, Close Combat and Stone Edge. Base HP of 100 and Attack of 125 make it a big physical bruiser, though its Speed is only 35.
Name origin
Mudsdale may combine 'mud' and 'Clydesdale', a draft horse breed. The Japanese name is Banbadoro (バンバドロ), which may combine banba ('draft horse') and doro ('mud').
Design inspiration
Mudsdale looks like a draft horse, for example the Clydesdale, a breed known for the feathering on its legs, and its mane seems to be modelled on dreadlocks.
Evolution notes
Mudbray evolves into Mudsdale at level 30.
In the games
Mudsdale is Hapu's partner in Sun and Moon, where it joins her battles, and Mudsdale Gallop is a Ride Pokémon that carries you across rocky ground. It is found in Sword and Shield, including the Crown Tundra Max Lair, and in Scarlet and Violet, but is not available in Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
Hapu's Mudsdale appears in 'That's Some Spicy Island Research!', carrying her radishes in its bags, and later battles Team Skull. Acerola and Ash also rode a Mudsdale through the Haina Desert in 'Some Kind of Laziness!'.
Fun facts
- Bulbapedia says nothing outweighs it apart from Mega Evolutions, Ultra Beasts and Legendary Pokémon.

- In 'A Pinch of This, a Pinch of That!', Bray Zenn's Mudsdale accidentally sent a large rock flying at Ash, Goh and Chloe, and Pikachu's Iron Tail smashed it.
