Lore
Biology
Yanmega is a dark green dragonfly with big red eyes, two white fangs beside its small mouth and a red spot on each body segment. It has six thin black legs, four white wings tipped with red, and two smaller wings on its tail that the Pokédex says help it stay balanced. It is 1.9 m long and weighs 51.5 kg.
Behaviour
Yanmega wastes no energy when it hunts: the Legends: Arceus Pokédex says it aims only for the prey's most vulnerable spot. Other entries say it likes to bite apart foes while flying past at high speed. Bulbapedia notes that it is very rare in the wild.
Habitat
The Pokédex gives no habitat; Bulbapedia says it lives in wooded and swampy areas. In The Teal Mask you find one by evolving Yanma or in 5-star and 6-star Tera Raid Battles.
Powers
Yanmega has Speed Boost or Tinted Lens, which strengthens not very effective attacks, with Frisk hidden. It begins with Bug Buzz, Air Slash and Night Slash. The Pokédex says its wing beats create shock waves that hurt foes on the inside. With base Special Attack 116 it is a fast special attacker.
Name origin
Yanmega combines yanma with 'mega' (large), and Bulbapedia says it may also nod to Meganeura, an enormous prehistoric relative of dragonflies. The Japanese name is Megayanma (メガヤンマ).
Design inspiration
Yanmega appears to be based on Meganeura monyi, a very large prehistoric 'griffinfly', which Bulbapedia says would explain why it evolves using Ancient Power. Its dull green colour and ability to carry a person may also recall military helicopters. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Yanmega is the final stage and does not evolve further. It is reached by levelling Yanma up while it knows Ancient Power.
In the games
In Legends: Arceus an Alpha Yanmega can be found at the Droning Meadow. Yanmega debuted in Diamond and Pearl, comes from evolving a Yanma in The Teal Mask in Scarlet and Violet, and is not available in Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
Jessie's Yanmega evolved in 'The Thief That Keeps on Thieving!' and was used in several Contests. From 'A Slippery Encounter!', multiple Yanmega serve as Florges's minions.
