Lore

Biology

Sylveon has pale cream fur with pink ears, feet and tail, light blue eyes and two bows, each trailing a pair of ribbonlike feelers tipped in pink and blue. It is 1 m tall and weighs 23.5 kg. Bulbapedia says the feelers can be used like limbs and stretched far beyond their usual length.

Behaviour

Sylveon winds its feelers round its Trainer's arm on walks, and the Pokédex says the touch lets it read their feelings. Hunting, it swirls its feelers to distract its prey before it pounces, and it will fearlessly charge dragon Pokémon many times its size. Bulbapedia says it enjoys dancing in flower meadows.

Habitat

The Pokédex habitat list gives none. In Scarlet and Violet it is found in Paldea's South Province (Area Six) and West Province (Area Three).

Powers

Cute Charm sometimes infatuates attackers that touch it, and its hidden Ability Pixilate turns its Normal moves into stronger Fairy moves. In Scarlet and Violet it learns Disarming Voice, Draining Kiss, Misty Terrain, Skill Swap and, at level 50, Moonblast, with Hyper Voice by TM. Its 110 base Special Attack and 130 base Special Defense suit a sturdy special attacker.

Name origin

Sylveon may combine 'sylph', 'sylvan', perhaps the Roman forest god Silvanus, and 'eon', the ending every Eevee evolution shares. The Japanese name is Nymphia (ニンフィア), probably from 'nymph'.

Design inspiration

Atsuko Nishida designed Sylveon, and Bulbapedia quotes her as saying it reimagines the stereotypical modern fairy, winged and human-shaped like Tinker Bell. Its colour scheme was chosen because it is not found in nature. Fans link its rabbit-like ears to the moon rabbit; that is a fan reading.

Evolution notes

Eevee evolves into Sylveon when it levels up knowing a Fairy-type move and with high friendship.

In the games

Sylveon is the Fairy-type Eevee evolution added in X and Y. In Legends: Arceus it appears in space-time distortions in the Obsidian Fieldlands and Coronet Highlands. In Scarlet and Violet it is also a 6-star Tera Raid boss, and in Legends: Z-A it is in Wild Zone 20 of Centrico Plaza and again in the Mega Dimension DLC's Hyperspace Lumiose.

In the anime

In 'Party Dancecapades!', Serena's Eevee evolves into a Sylveon while fighting in a Tag Battle beside Ash's Pikachu. Penny's Sylveon appears in Pokémon Horizons and Terastallizes into a Fairy type in a Double Battle in the episode after 'Terastallization vs. Mega Evolution!'.

Fun facts

  • Junichi Masuda has said that Sylveon was the very first Fairy design made for the games.
  • It is the only Eeveelution never to evolve with an item in any game; Leafeon and Glaceon can use stones from Generation VIII, and Espeon and Umbreon can use a Sun Shard and Moon Shard in XD.
  • Bulbapedia notes that Sylveon is the lone species from after Generation IV that you can get in Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX.
  • It was the only Generation VI Pokémon to be an evolutionary relative of an older species.
